Eoghan Kenny TD Urges Immediate Action on Cork Supervised Injection Centre

Eoghan Kenny, Labour Party TD for Cork North-Central, has called for the immediate establishment of a supervised drug injection centre in Cork city, emphasizing that continued government inaction is endangering lives.

Drawing on the positive outcomes from Dublin's pilot injection centre, Deputy Kenny stated, "The evidence is clear — supervised injection centres save lives." He highlighted that such facilities not only prevent overdose deaths but also connect individuals to addiction treatment and social services, reduce the spread of HIV and hepatitis C, and help diminish drug-related crime in communities.

Kenny criticized the delay in establishing a centre in Cork, describing it as "deeply frustrating," and urged the government to adopt a proactive and urgent response to ensure the well-being of communities and provide necessary support to those struggling with addiction.

The Labour Party has consistently advocated for a comprehensive harm reduction strategy across Ireland, supporting the rollout of supervised injection centres nationwide. Kenny's call to action underscores the need for bold and practical solutions to address the public health crisis associated with drug use.
